School and Dormitory Support aims to improve the physical conditions of schools in rural areas and poorer neighbourhoods. We verify the needs lists sent by teachers and parent-teacher associations through a site visit and buy only what is truly required.
What do we do?
- Science laboratory: a set-up of microscopes, experiment kits and cabinets costs about 420,000 TRY each
- School library: an 800-book classroom library and reading corner
- Back-to-school stationery set: a bag, notebooks, pens and paints for 650 TRY per set
- Dormitory bedding and heating: beds, blankets, stoves and fuel support
- Mobile library: a vehicle that brings books and activities to mountain villages
How do we choose?
Priority goes to single-teacher multigrade schools, student dormitories and projects that help girls stay in education. After each installation a written handover record is signed with the head teacher and a usage visit follows six months later.
This year we delivered libraries to 38 schools, science laboratories to 7 schools and distributed 4,100 stationery sets.
