Tahoua Village Water Well

A borehole in Niger's Tahoua region that will give clean water to 600 people.

In this village in the Tahoua region, 600 people walk an average of three hours a day to fetch water from a hollow in a dry riverbed. The campaign aims to open a solar-pumped borehole in the village centre.

Project scope

  • 80 metres of drilling and a water quality analysis
  • A solar pump, a 5,000-litre tank and a covered tap point
  • A five-person water committee chosen from villagers, with maintenance training
  • An annual maintenance visit for 5 years

Our local partner carries out the drilling and the foundation's field team documents each stage with photographs and GPS coordinates. An opening report is sent to donors on completion. A share donation is 2,000 TRY.

Timeline and report

Once the target amount is reached, drilling is completed in about 60 days. At the opening, the well's GPS coordinates, the water analysis result and an illustrated report are emailed to all donors.
