Kurtalan Village School Science Laboratory
Experiments for the science lessons of 180 students in Kurtalan, Siirt.
At a middle school in Kurtalan, Siirt, 180 students take science lessons from textbooks alone, without experiments. The school's teachers applied for a laboratory set-up; on our site visit we found an empty storeroom suitable for the purpose.
What the set-up includes
- 12 microscopes, 6 experiment work benches and cabinets
- Physics, chemistry and biology experiment kits
- Safety equipment: goggles, gloves and a first-aid cabinet
- A two-day experiment training course for teachers
The total budget is 420,000 TRY. Once the laboratory is complete the school has committed to opening it monthly to students from neighbouring village schools.
Timeline and sustainability
Once the target is reached, installation is completed in 45 days. For laboratory consumables, the parent-teacher association and the foundation set up a joint maintenance fund for the first two years.
